Isternia Tinos 2021-2022

Isternia Tinos / Zig Zag Festival 2021 - 2022

In 2021 CHEAPART organized the first Zig Zag Festival at the Isternia village in Tinos, which had recently emerged as a well known location for international artists, musicians and writers. The festival was embraced by the participants and residents who welcomed it as their own cultural event of the summer.
Isternia Tinos / Zig Zag Festival 2021 revisited Tinian natural history through contemporary art, reclaiming attention to the historical landmarks of Isternia. Both the group exhibition "Living marble", the outdoor exhibition and series of events, performances, excursions and guided tours, created substantial social and financial advantages for the local community.

In 2022, Isternia Tinos/ Zig Zag Festival "Dialogues on Change" suggested alternative ways to approach environmental issues by inviting the contemporary art community to explore the climate change crisis. The program was designed to connect the exhibition experience with the natural environment and landscape of Isternia. Artists drew on local nature and materials, creating a multitude of works and expressive forms. The public explored and discovered a trail of site-specific outdoor artwork installed in parts of the traditional village of Isternia. As a result, the increased audience from Athens and other cities, Tinos, the nearby islands, revealed as a completely different group of dedicated individuals wanting to create meaningful ties with the locals and the landscape.
